Northeast Florida Coalition for Access to Healthcare Quarterly Meeting

The Northeast Florida Coalition for Access to Healthcare is the re-imagined Uninsured Workgroup. The overarching goal of the coalition is to ensure that local providers and other healthcare partners work collaboratively and identify available local resources to address issues related to access to healthcare.

Practitioners, community workers, and providers interested in ensuring access to quality healthcare in Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns, and Volusia counties are invited to attend.

Health Planning Council of Northeast Florida
ACA Marketplace Update

In recent news, rule that will expand access to health care for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients has been finalized. DACA recipients and other newly eligible individuals will qualify for a special enrollment period to select a health plan through the Marketplace during the 60 days following the rule’s November 1, 2024, effective date.

Cary QuinonesCary serves as the Program Manager for the ACA Navigator Program at HPCNEF, overseeing a dedicated team of ten navigators covering our seven-county service area. With prior roles as an ACA Marketplace Certified Application Counselor and supervisor at a non-profit federally qualified health center, Cary brings a wealth of experience and a steadfast dedication to crafting effective healthcare solutions.

Rhonda Hunter, Health Insurance Specialist
Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)
Consumer Protections Under the No Surprises Act

This presentation will focus on consumers who have employer or Marketplace coverage and those who are uninsured or self-pay. The presentation will provide an overview of the No Surprises Act and how to find an action plan (a demonstration of https://www.cms.gov/medical-bill-rights).

Rhonda Hunter is a Health Insurance Specialist with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services – The U.S Department of Health and Human Services. She conducts outreach and education activities to the public throughout the eight southeastern states. Currently, Rhonda works with the states of Alabama and Georgia. Rhonda is a graduate of Spelman College. She has been employed with Medicare since 1988 as a student while attending college. When she graduated, she worked her way up through the ranks in various customer service positions. Rhonda has been a member of the outreach team since 1997, with the changes of the Medicare Balanced Budget Act, traveling among the eight southeastern states. Rhonda has received numerous awards for outstanding customer service during her career.

Scott Darius, Executive Director
Florida Voices for Health
An Update on Florida’s Health Care Landscape

Scott will review some of the outcomes from the 2024 Florida Legislative Session and the big health care issues anticipated to bubble up this year. The presentation will also include a quick look at some of ongoing health access campaigns happening around the state.

Scott Darius is the Executive Director of Florida Voices for Health. Scott graduated from the University of Florida College of Law in May of 2013. He also completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Florida with a major in political science in 2010. He began his career in health advocacy in 2012 when he joined Florida CHAIN (Consumer Health Action and Information Network) where he eventually helped to coordinate the statewide campaign for Medicaid expansion.
